Dr. Mary Rockefeller DNP, FNP-C
Dr. Mary Rockefeller was drawn to the world of nursing, beginning her journey as an auxiliary nurse dedicated to the elderly and those less fortunate in her community. As her zeal for nursing intensified, she sought to deepen her expertise, aiming to offer evidence-backed medical care. Graduating with honors in 2006, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Howard University. Soon after, she joined Adventist Hospital as a Medical-Surgical Oncology RN Nurse and further expanded her experience at the Army Retirement Home and Rock Creek Manor. Here, she climbed the ranks from unit manager to supervisor, ensuring top-notch care for a facility of 117 residents.
In 2009, a significant honor was bestowed upon Dr. Rockefeller when Major Adrian Fenty appointed her to the District of Columbia Board of Nursing. For three transformative years, she wasn't just a board member; she was a visionary. Dr. Rockefeller played a pivotal role in penning the protocols for nurses, shaping the very essence of the Nursing Scope of Practice. She meticulously evaluated nursing school curriculums, ensuring they met the gold standard of accreditation. Beyond the boardroom, her commitment to community health was evident. As a member of the DC Area Healthy Scholars, she was a familiar face at health fairs, championing preventive health education.
But Dr. Rockefeller's thirst for knowledge was insatiable. She returned to the academic world, earning her Nurse Practitioner/MSN from the esteemed Howard University School of Medicine / Allied Health in 2013. Since then, her medical journey has been nothing short of diverse, from correctional medicine and psychiatry to primary care and acute care hospitals. Each setting enriched her, adding to her vast reservoir of clinical experiences that have made a tangible difference in countless lives. Yet, she didn't stop there. In 2019, she reached another academic pinnacle, completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice at Grand Canyon University.
